Description
this pickup driven by a teenager failed to stop before running into my poor 4Runner. the traffic had stopped on the expressway because of an exit only being partially open do to construction. I stopped because of the traffic, but the teenager may have been on his phone or was not looking. I never heard his tires from the brakes being applied suddenly, so he struck the rear of my 4Runner full force

What rotten luck! Those darn cell phones are the scourge of society!
My brother told me of an accident he was in back in the late 50's when he was in the Marines during basic training. One of his buddies had a cherry 55 Ford Tudor. Some young guy rear ended them at a stop light. The young guy was busy combing his hair. Still in shock when he got out of his car, he still had his hand on his comb and it was still up in his hair where he was combing it. He didn't realize it until someone said something to him. Luckily, no one was hurt in that accident either, except the poor automobiles! It was a humorous memory for my brother.

This is why the Swedish government has cracked down HARD on cell phone use in vehicles. You are NOT allowed to phone, send or receive sms, answer the phone or even have it on when your vehicle is in motion. Any cell phone use is to be with the vehicle at full stop and out of the road way. Yet, there are idiots (YES, in Sweden too!)... I bet that teen will get it hot from ma or pa. He sure doesn't have money to buy a car like that. Man am I glad you and your passengers came through alright! Good that you took photos! Keep up the good work! :-)

In Germany, if you have your hands on the cellphone, and you get caught, you cost about $ 100 and you get points in the traffic register, and still people dont care.

Good grief...the jerk was probably on his phone or texting...there should be a way to disable a phone while the car's engine is running...hope you did't receive any back injury due to this...

Terrible mate and just glad nobody was badly hurt. We have the same problems here with drivers using mobiles while driving and despite any government or Police attempt to stop it foolish people still do it. I hope that person has learnt a lesson.

I don't even like driving anymore because of idiots like this. Seems like you can't drive more than a mile without seeing some idiot texting on his phone, or doing something else equally stupid. I remember a few years ago I was driving to an account and looked over at the car next to me. There was a girl driving with a freaking book propped up on her steering wheel… Reading as she was driving. Idiot!
