Description

Hello Rendosians ! Looking into my folders on my hard drive, I've found out this nice picture from my vacation in Greece. The photography represents an evzone (εύζωνος) : he guards the tomb of the Unknown Soldier in front of the greek parliament on Syntagma Square (Athens). He belongs to the elite of light infantry and wears a doulama. The doulama's color is ochre in summer and blue in winter. I wanted to know more about this uniform and learned that the shoes are very heavy (3 kilos for the pair) and are handmade : a stunning work ! The pompom is decorative nowadays but used to hide a blade that could be used for self-defense when the guard had no other weapons. Et pas question de les moderniser ! pas plus que les horse guards de Londres ou autres militaires aux habits qui ressortissent, de nos jours, plus au folklore qu'à une utilité. En tout cas, c'est un très bon cliché qui me ramène agréablement aux temps où je devais aller à Athènes pour superviser notre "succursale"...

De retour sur le site, je me réjouis de voir que tu n'as pas chômé, même si tu n'es pas encore en vacances ! C'est une très belle photo, comme d'habitude, au cadrage parfait, avec une lumière et des contrastes bien maîtrisés, bravo l'artiste! En plus, tu enfonces le couteau dans la plaie pour me rappeler que j'ai pratiquement ignoré toute ma vie que des pays comme l'Italie ou la Grèce se visitent bien avant d'aller voir du côté du grand nord de la planète !
