Description
Dominating the Dordogne, on the axis of communication with central France, the Vayres site was occupied very early in history. Indeed, it was of great strategic interest, particularly for the defence of Bordeaux. Excavations have brought to light pottery kilns from the Gallo-Roman period, confirming the presence of a large population already at that time. A Gallo-Roman oppidum was succeeded by a first wooden castle

I enjoy seeing them and I appreciate their architectural styles. however I do not understand why they built them. for sure the poor people paid for them and forced labor. just like the humongous churches around the world. superb capture
