Description

I gave Veronica top billing today. Rumour is that Veronica and Betty are (or at least were for a long time) essentially drawn the same. They have differing hair, makeup and cloths, that's all. And here again, I play with this idea by using the same model, morphs and skin textures for both characters. Though I have depicted Veronica with green eyes and slightly darker skin. This Poser rendering is another indirect lighting experiment on my part. The scene has exactly one (1) light source - an infinite yellowish-white light with ray traced shadows. The characters are rendered within a diffuse white (and non-specular) box - flat white if you will. The box itself does not cast shadows and requires its group normals reversed using Poser's grouping tool - to make the sides visible in the interior. The camera must also be within the confines of the box so the box gets quite large with a 95mm lense - it's a glam shot after all. In my opinion, the results are rather different than what I normally expect from Poser and are more reminiscent of Poser characters rendered in Vue. Which is really interesting and I will have to explore more. The rendering options had to be set to much higher quality too.
  • Minimum shading rate was set to 0.02.
  • Ray-trace bounces has to be six (6) or greater.
  • Indirect lighting quality has to be very high - at or above eighty (80).
  • The light's shadow value MUST be very low - 0.1 in this case.
Otherwise the shadows are too black and skin textures look like the girls have just cleaned up from wrestling in tar.
Even with the final product there are still some dark smudges here and there and Betty comes out more of a dirty blonde. Which is better than in some early renderings where it looks like Betty had some serious black roots. Perhaps that's Betty's dirty little secret, she's not a true blonde after all! That pretty little liar. Sorry, no nudity.

Oh, my goodness! Haven't seen these two ladies for a very long time! They age well, it seems.

Outstanding work on this delightful image.

You do realize, of course, now you're going to have to do one of Archie and Jughead... 😉😁

Wow. That's a lot of complex work to get this desired effect in Poser. Wonderful. As an Archie's Comic fan growing up, I did find it obvious that Betty and Veronica were basically the same drawn figure. but Betty was my favorite. I identified with Jughead, so the point was moot! Archie and Reggie were chasing the girls, and Jughead was chasing hamburgers! LOL. Thanks for the cool memory.

I bet if these two had an affair back in the comic days it would have been scandalous, lol. Maybe I would have read the comic more often. Poor Arch, just can't catch a break... 👭😁

Lovely pair of characters. The indirect lighting used, certainly has a similarity to that characteristic Vue 'brightness'. Great work on those settings!
