I think it is a Weigela. But if it suckers easily it could be the other!

A Weigela or a Kolkwitzia? Like I never heard of either. Cool captures with high contrast of a pretty flower that I'm seeing for the first time, Helle. Looks almost like a stunted day lily. And the leaves have a nice texture, reminding me somewhat of Lantana.

Hmmmmm ... I'm going to say weigela, as well. It's sure tough to tell them apart! I've got a beauty bush (kolkwitzia) in my yard, but it's sort of dark out, and I'm not going out there with a flashlight to do a plant ID! LOL! Looking at pictures of both, it seems like the kolkwitzia has fuzzy bits at the base of the flower cluster, while the weigela does not. Yours doesn't have it, and that's what I'm basing my OH so professional opinion on. LOL! :P

Aside from all that ... beautiful photo! :)

When you write, "Is it a Weigela or a Kolkwitzia?" I think: You're kidding, right? Those are names of flowers??? Sounds like the names of some guys I went to high school with...I don't know what they are, but they're really a combination of beauty and scraggy-ness, I love the crinkled ornery edges and the more decayed flowers. And the space in between them. It's a very persnickety bunch of flowers, and the capture has great character and beauty. (The 2d one---in your comment---is much softer.) Beautiful primal capture, Helle.
