Description
This is a smaller version of a 30x20 inch print I created commemorating the fighter squadrons who flew and maintained the F-105D in Southeast Asia during the Vietnam War. The 105 was used primarily as a bomber, with it's pilots and crews participating in some of the most grueling and punishing missions during the war. They suffered numerous losses, with 296 of just the D model alone being lost to enemy fire, and many of their pilots killed, missing in action, or captured as Prisoners Of War. Despite heavy losses, 105Ds were responsible for many successful missions and shooting down 25 MiG-17s.
The print features a profile of the F-105D set against a blue background, with a stylized Republic "Thunderchief" emblem. Underneath the aircraft are the patches of all the squadrons who flew the ship during the war.
The aircraft was modeled in 3DSMax, textured in Photoshop, rendered in Vue Studio, with further layout and post-production in Photoshop.
