Description
Brent loved old cars as well as traveling the back roads around his home town. He never
knew what he would see as there were many old abandoned farms in the area. One
day, he took a road trip over unfamiliar territory. He was driving down a mostly deserted
road when he notice an old shed off to the side sitting on a hill off in the distance.
'That looks interesting.' he thought to himself. 'Wonder if I'd get in trouble if I
poke around a bit?"
That was when he discovered the old Mercury shell behind the shed. It was rusting away,
but still in salvagable condition, he thought. 'I wonder who owns this place?' he thought
to himself.
Stopping off at the nearest farmstead answered his question. The old farmer there owned
the old shed and car. He and Brent hit it off right away. Before long, Brent asked the old
man what he was going to do with the old car.
'At one time, I was going to fix her up and drive her some more. But life just kept getting
in the way. Now that I'm old and don't have anyone to give it to, I guess it will just sit
there and rust away.' said the old man.
'Would you consider selling it to me?' asked Brent.
'Well, I suppose I might be persuaded to part with her. Tell you what. You can have her for
$200.00. But then if you get her back together again, you have to bring her back out here
and give me a last ride in her. Do we have a deal?'
'Sure do, Mr. Olgilvie! I'll be back tomorrow with the cash and a trailer. Do you think you
can help me load her onto the trailer? asked Brent.
'No problem.' said Mr. Olgilvie. 'I've got an old loader tractor that I think will still
start. I can rig up something to move the Merc onto your trailer. See you tomorrow then.'
The next day, Brent borrowed a trailer from one of his friends. His Dad let him use his new
pickup. 'Don't get any scratches on it!' said his Dad, 'or I'll have to whup your young
butt!' he said with a wink.
Everything moved along smoothly after that. Brent got out to Mr. Olgivie's place shortly
after dinner. Mr. Olgilvie had got one of his loader tractors to start and had rigged up
a couple skids in the loader bucket.
Brent gave him the $200.00 and they went over to where the old car was. Mr. Olgilvie's
skids slid under the old car without any trouble and before long, the car was loaded
onto the trailer.
'Tell you what.' said Mr. Olgilvie. 'There are some more parts in the old shed you can
have as well. I'll help you load them to. Consider them as an incentive to keep you
focused on getting this old Merc back on the road.'
'Gee thanks, Mr. Olgilvie! I sure do appreciate it! I'd be happy to give you some more
money!'
'No need sonny. That stuff isn't doing me any good anymore. I'll show you what I think
you might need to get started.'
With that, Mr. Olgilvie opened up the old shed. In there was a complete motor and trans-
mission. Lots of spare body parts and even the remains of the seats and other interior
items. Brent could see he was probably going to have to make another trip to get it all.
He thanked Mr. Olgilvie for his kindness and over the course of the next week, he visited
the old man several times, each time taking a few more items for the old car back home.

Sweet story and image! Hope we will get to see at least a few more frames, maybe some progress shots of the restoration, and a final with Brent giving Mr. Ogilvie his long-awaited last ride in the ol' Merc! Bravo!

I know someone that's been working on one of those for 30 years, says he doesn't ever intend to finish it, it's just the activity he likes.
