Description
No 2 shot ;
This is a replica of the very first aircraft purchased by the Signal Corps. 'Signal Corps Airplane No 1'. It lasted until March 1911, when it was retired, the original is alive and in the Collection of the Smithsonian, Washington.
The engine, chains, sockets and propeller are original and were donated by the Wright estates.
I'll try to fill in the 'missing' aircraft from photos of my previous visit with Bill. There aren't many, I'm checking as I go. You will be pleased to know that the experimental and Presidential aircraft were very much easy to shoot! Plus the 'Memphis Belle' is on show.... (I'd forgotten until I reached the door!)

Great shot! I was lucky to see the real thing at the Air and Space Museum in DC.

Interesting shot and commentary. And the ratty floor is in dire of need of repaving.

I also like the "Baby Grand" with it's low aspect ratio wings and V-8 for racing.
