Description

Baltimore's Fleet Week for 2018 is winding down today. Weather started out nice and Saturday was predicted to be cool and excellent. So, when the JOHN W. BROWN offered front row seating for the Saturday and Sunday air show over the harbor, I said: Sure! This year the usual Blue Angels were performing in California, so they booked the Air Force Thunderbirds. Jets is jets to the Weese so a good time was expected. However, the CinC Weather had other ideas. Low cloud ceiling varying between 2K and 3K feet. Not good. After all of that I'm sure some folks are saying: OK, so why are we looking at a picture of THIS vessel. Simple, this is where I ended up after the T-bird no shows while wandering around on the BROWN. I remember making a model of this ship way back in the 60s. It was fascinating. A nuclear-powered cargo passenger ship with the lines of a yacht and here it was in its twilight years in the flesh. SAVANNAH has been in Baltimore for several years undergoing a decommissioning and this is the first time I noticed that it was hosting an OPEN HOUSE. You know we are going to spend some time on this one. So here we are in a decrepit section of the harbor with a great bow-on shot and the promise of open sea thanks to the Key bridge in the background and the fine lines of what is still a unique and fine-looking ship. Enjoy; thanks for viewing. FULL IMAGE suggested https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/NS_Savannah == for additional info.

I was surprised when i read her name on her bow. The first and only commercial nuclear ship in the world. And then i read your description. You're right to visit her, i would too. Nice shot!
