this was such a delight from the minute it went up. I hadn't remembered 'the old woman who lived in a shoe' in eons; and I imagine younger people today haven't heard of it to begin with. (It goes back at least a few hundred years, and has been given interpretations you wouldn't believe!) You did your own woman in a shoe, titling it for the dog---great title! And I luuuuv that dog, small, almost unnoticeable at first, but he's down on his fore legs either sniffing some flowers, or daring his master to play. Love it. And she's walking out of that massive Timberland boot (for a hike in some major mountains) with great shoelaces falling off the shoe, and some great worn-leather texture. (Suede? Did she actually have a suede shoe? Nubuck maybe?) You even have a balcony with clothes drying. And the door trim matches the laces. And fine detail on the hill, with a single tree and well----and a looming storm in the background, beautifully done with great hues and stormy textures. I love the light on the grass too...It's hard to write briefly with pieces like this; and, in all this shadow and looming darkness, the dog is being a dog, playing away as dogs always do, while the woman looks like she's going to market. Terrific, Barb. A class act through and through.
