After almost three weeks at sea we decided to get something warm and good to eat. Our ship's cook is a great fellow but he's only an average sailor and a worse cook. So we stopped in a small cafe near the public baths. We were about half way through our meal when a fellow in a stained and dirty shirt plopped down at our table across from us. He looked us over for a moment, ignoring our looks of disapproval at his interruption, Then he spoke. “You look like honest and brave gents,” he said. “Would you be interested in more gold than either of you can carry?” Oh, here we go, I thought.
