Description
Ils vivent en groupes pouvant compter jusqu'à 80 individus. Ces groupes sont répartis en petits sous-groupes de quelques familles dirigés par un mâle adulte. Ils passent le plus clair de leur temps à se reposer en grandes bandes ou à lézarder seuls au soleil. Ce comportement sert probablement à les aider à réguler leur température corporelle qui varie avec la température ambiante (ils ne sont pas strictement homéothermes).
Il produit de grandes quantités d'hyraceum (masse collante, mélange d'excréments et d'urine) qui a été employé dans le traitement traditionnel de plusieurs maladies comme l'épilepsie et les convulsions et continue d'être employé en parfumerie.
They live in groups of up to 80 individuals. These groups are divided into small subgroups of a few families led by an adult male. They spend most of their time resting in large bands or sunbathing alone in the sun. This behaviour is probably used to help them regulate their body temperature, which varies with ambient temperature (they are not strictly homeotherms).
It produces large quantities of hyraceum (sticky mass, a mixture of excrement and urine) which has been used in the traditional treatment of several diseases such as epilepsy and convulsions and continues to be used in perfumery.
