Edmond: We are kings or pawns, a man once said. Luigi: Who told you this? Edmond: Napolean Bonaparte. Luigi: Bonaparte? [laughs] Luigi: Oh, Zatarra, the stories you tell That, after The Church full of People was Burnt to the Ground and the toss of the cliff.

Many of your portraits capture very intense gazes and personality. This is a good example. Part of it is in the attitude, the tilt of the head, the serious expression, almost longing...and part of it is in your high contrast of light and dark, with such intense application of dark hues: You have a very intense way in these portraits, and it makes them jump right out to us. This man, introspective perhaps, comes to us in an intense state. Maybe in real life he has a lighter nature; but your portrait brings out intensity the way a photographer might. Another powerful portrait from you. And you do a fine job with a minimum of hues---here, browns mainly, with whites and some grays.
