wow, '72...I was still a hippie back then, and I wasn't doing much figure drawing (though my girlfriend at the time sure was, and she'd have appreciated this)...very intense use of heavy shading, and yet the 3 people have a real mix of moods. The man on our left is lost in thought way off the frame of the image; the other two are also lost in thought, it seems, though the right-most man seems to look at the left-most man....A real 'moment', of serendipitous connection while 3 friends are lost in their silence...And your heavy shading sets them apart and pulls them together. An intense sketch...with the airy equanimity of several of your Bryce pieces, one wouldn't guess that you had such heavy strokes in your earlier portraiture. Strong capture of a moment, with a strong application of graphite...
