Description
Once Soy has completed the day's duties imposed by Bill, he can then work on his own homework. There is only one computer in that room that is provided by the school authorities. Soy owns nothing, he may, however, use that computer, but sometimes, Bill wants to use it and for that, he just uses it. If Soy is busy on it, even though Bill owns a laptop computer and it is located in his backpack, Bill will simply pull Soy out of his way. If Soy has the slightest objection, he will face the painful disciplinary action from Bill, as I explained earlier (See my post on December 02, 2018 : "1984ish 11 : Disciplinary Actions").
If you want to read my almost weekly 1984ish rant, read on; it is like the morning black coffee : bitter, but awakening.
Trading freedom in exchange for extra convenience and instant gratification.
I am shocked by the number of people who are ready to accept being spied on, just for extra convenience. They want something and expect to get it right away without any effort; wow! We want to live in a Disneytopia; magic on demand, but there is a dark side. They want entertainment everywhere, constantly, so that they do not have one second of "boredom.” It is as if introspecting, meditating or thinking is boring.
They equip themselves with smartphones, e-watches, voice assistants, GPS navigation, connected objects, instant payment cards, rewards points services, remote-controlled house, home surveillance systems on their smartphone, and so on and on and on. They connect themselves with greedy social network services, giving, for free, their most intimate information, and above all, their approval of the gadget in getting actively extra information about their activities to be beamed back CONSTANTLY to the service provider. They are accepting of being under constant surveillance; Orwellian type, but they do not seem to realize that fact. Not only that, with that constant flow of collected information, the service provider can influence them, indoctrinate them, brainwash them, control them like puppets without themselves being aware of that.
WHY WOULD YOU GIVE SUCH GADGET TO YOUR CHILD? The service provider is able to turn the child against his/her parents; indeed this has already happened. The various service providers exchange among themselves such collected information into a BIG DATA system and they let their artificial intelligence (AI) do surveillance work for them. These providers and their AI know more about you than yourself, and they can control you more perfectly than you can imagine in your most nightmares. This is how we are losing our freedom; we just give it up for almost nothing : convenience.
This is why I am seeing so many zombies, doing the same things and unable to think anymore : walking deads.
From the beginning of the computer age, I was always wary about the possible evil of technology, even though I am a fan of that. I read, I study, I analyze, I question, before adopting any new technology gadget; I think like a greedy criminal to figure out a way that such technology can be used against me or against anybody. If I find a possibility to criminally misuse it, I reject the gadget, or if I have to adopt it, to use it with great care even if that become very inconvenient.
