Series Title : "Ionivka : Big-Feet Mutant" Episode 1 : "The Posthumous Letters" The "mild" explosion was from a buried "small" old and yet undetected neutron bomb from a previous war; it was triggered by the earthquake. The thermal neutrons generated by the explosion of such bomb has the effect of interacting with the nucleus of atoms, especially hydrogen, and making them be kick-off from their environment. If such an atom was part of the DNA, the latter will be damaged; if it was part of the water within a living cell, a free radical will be created and this will damage or kill the cell. That bomb is a life killer, especially to non-mutants, but it damages minimally the inanimate structures like buildings and bridges. Big-Feet mutants are much less sensitive to nuclear radiation and particles, like neutrons; this is because of their exceptional DNA and cell components repair enzymes that are unique to such mutants. However, the radiation level was so intense that it killed Fine-Eyes mutants immediately (even though they are less sensitive to radiation that non-mutants) and that it has created cancer in her now radioactive mother. She explains that she will have to live in a palliative care unit until her death. At the bottom corner, her mother makes Ionivka promise to obey her father even if he is not explaining why.
