You said that you usually do non-postworked pieces for my birthdays: You're right---but I think your very first dedi was an abstract, not unlike this one: And you said something like "for Mark, Master of the Abstract". I still remember it because it was a terrific abstract, made of real images; and that's what you've made here. I would recognize your signature geometrics a mile away; and the contrasts of light with dark (here, whites with dark browns). All from nothing more than a couple of outdoor furnishings---a table and chair---and some very striated concrete. Given your way with shadow work, this is an immediately recognizable Harry shot; but the abstract element---from your mirror images, and that big "X" (made of 7's?), and all the attendant distortions---has all the stand-out elements you capture in your geometric pieces (from fences to furniture to pillars to sprinkler shadows, and on an on. I love it. And the "X" is like a time warp that everything comes out of....And thank you, Harry, for your very touching words, I know you mean them, and they mean the world to me. And for your superlative comments all year long, as well, and for your comments for my birthday in my gallery and in others': I appreciate every one of them. You always make me feel utterly special and appreciated; and you do it in a most caring and articulate way. Thank you for it all---incl of course your vast array of fine art of every kind---it's all greatly appreciated, my friend.
