Description

Bringing her eyes back to the ground, Myst found Mykal with a satisfied smirk on his face, as he led her amongst the massive trunks until they reach one with stairs that literally grew from its side as they spiraled upward to the lowest deck, some thirty feet above. They crossed several open decks and bridges, some supported by ropes, others grown directly from the branches, and climbed another two levels up, passing a few elves, half-elves and even a stray human or two on the way, who recoiled in surprise upon seeing her. Finally, reaching a structure partially built around, and partially grown from, a massive trunk; entering, they faced a reception desk attended by a pretty wood-elven woman, who smiled a little too welcomingly at Mykal, greeting him in a feign warm tone; “I was beginning to wonder if you would return this winter.” “Sorry to disappoint you,” he retorted sarcastically, then added with mock formality; “Madam Hacathra Moonglamaer, may I present Ilamyst, formerly of Maerimydra.” “Welcome dear,” Hacathra met her with forced gentility as she eyed Myst distrustfully, adding, as she turned back to Mykal; “Can I assume that your… guest… will be spending the winter with you, and will depart in the spring when you leave?” “That’s her decision,” he replied fixing her with a warning stare. “She’ll remain with me as long as she wants… and whether she stays or leaves when I do is up to her.” Turning away from madam Hacathra, he guided Myst toward an interior stairway, up a flight and down a hall of alternating doors. Stopping midway, he produced a key from his pouch, unlocked the door then ushered her into a dark and chilly room. After lighting lanterns set around the room, he set a fire in the small hearth against one wall to dispel the chill, while she surveyed it, finding a small table and pair of chairs sitting under a shuttered window opposite a moderately sized bed, a large metal tub opposite the hearth and an enclosed privy in one corner, while a verity of chests and cabinets occupied the remaining wall space. “What is this… an inn of some kind?” she queried as she slipped off the cloak he had lent her, a little unsettled, but not the least bit surprised by her welcome. Although she had expected to be treated with suspicion and hostility, it didn’t make the bite any less painful. However, she found herself consoled, and even heartened, by his defense of her. “It’s madam Moonglamaer’s boarding house,” he replied from his knees while he tended the fire, stealing glances toward her as she stood just over his shoulder, offering a delightful view of the shapely legs peeking out from the hem of the oversized chemise she wore, and tantalizing him with the temptation to peek beneath. “I pay her a year’s rent in advance before I leave in the spring and she keeps the room for whenever I return, usually just for the winter.” Raising from the hearth, he turned his attention to the tub opposite it, offering, almost sheepishly; “How about a nice hot bath to chase the chill away?”

Great continuation. I for one am not disappointed. And I like the image of the characters. Myst is pretty, and Mykal is drool-worthy. And I understand what you mean about not finding props. I've had to learn to model to create stuff I couldn't find or cobble together.

Thanks for your kind comment! Before they went under, I had found some good stuff at "another site" but lost a great deal of it when my hard-drive died. It's unfortunate that I don't have the time and money to invest in learning to model myself. I guess I'll have to be content with trying to create the settings I see in my head with words.

Splendid continuation and the render looks really good, specially Myst. Beautiful expression on her. I do agree, sometimes we just don't have the props that would fit what we picture in our minds. Your words do paint a picture that we the readers can visualize. Getting into building models is not easy and is very time consuming that most people don't have. I am about to take a plunge in it though. I use ZBrush to create morphs etc and make modifications to Miho but I never have gotten deep into it. This year I want to master it. That is one of my goals for the year. Will see how much I can learn on my own. And if I do learn it properly I will start building things because I find myself spending too much money buying props that don't work as I want them to.

Thanks again for all your kind comments! Best of luck with your modeling... at this point, being on a fixed income, I really can't invest much money into my graphics obsession, so I have to manage with the products I already have, or, more accurately, those that I could recover after my hard-drive crash... I lost a lot of good stuff from "another site".

Unfortunately there will be a delay in posting the next installment... Last night my "bad foot" lived up to its monikor and swelled up so I had to call 911... I'm in the hospital for 3 to 4 days!

A most lovely scene - Myst is so lovely. Excellent job on the forest environment.

If things here ever settle down, I'm hoping to start learning Blender. Can't really afford anything like Zbrush for a while...

I'm loving how your story is progressing.

Thanks again for all your kind comments! Unfortunately, the next installment will be delayed because I'm currently in the hospital. Last night my "bad leg" swelled up due to an infection, so I'm stuck here for at least the weekend.

Excellent image and great atmosphere...I can tell you I'm not disappointed : the image and the story line both are great. Hope you'll be OK very soon ; a sojourn in a hospital is never a pleasure except to give birth !!!! you're not concerned !

I hope from the bottom of my heart that you will soon feel better, my broken foot from before 4 years ago is still on strike. In addition there is my severe Arthrosis, which makes me scream more and more often with pain, especially in the hips! That's why I only make comments on weekends because I can do them in peace - Good Luck! 💞

Thanks again for all your kind comments! I'm glad I could paint a mental picture for you. Unfortunately the next installment will be delayed a little longer as I'm still stuck in the hospital... They were supposed to let me out this morning at 11, but the admitting doctor screwed around with ordering one more test and now I'm stuck here till tomorrow... If they don't let me out then I'm staging an escaped!
