Description

Captured 8/15/2009 at the beautiful Huntington Library, Art Collections, & Botanical Gardens in beautiful San Marino, California. Bonsai (Japanese: 盆栽, lit. 'tray planting') is the Japanese pronunciation of the Sino-Japanese word "盆栽". It is an Asian art form using cultivation techniques to produce small trees in containers that mimic the shape and scale of full size trees. Similar practices exist in East Asian cultures, including the Chinese tradition of penzai from which the Japanese version Bonsai originated, and the derivative miniature living landscapes of Vietnamese Hòn Non Bộ. The Japanese tradition dates back over a thousand years. Source: Wikipedia free encyclopedia.

I'm in the midst of wrist treatments (which will last another 2 weeks), so I can't do my usual long session tonight. But at least I can catch up on a few more. (Love what you're doing with trees and cacti, in your most recent uploads; I'll get back to them soon.) A beautiful angled shot of this wild beautiful bonsai, on top. The angle feels very Japanese, esp with another one in the background, and the wooden wall behind. And the 2d shot shows the hurricane like twists of that piece of driftwood. (?) Maybe it's part of the plant, but whatever it is, it's typical of Japanese design, placing both so close together. Two very dramatic shots, the top one very Japanese, while the bottom feels like a mini typhoon making its way through a huge wad of chewing gum. (Sorry, Bonsai lovers! Just what came to my mind!) Love the shots.
