Description

We flew into the wild, blue yonder and have returned to tell about it. As some of you know, Ray and I traveled to Cardiff, Wales and Ireland two weeks ago. He was an invited speaker at a conference and they generously included me in the trip costs. I’ve cobbled together some of the photos and am posting them in 4 separate uploads. This is a boiled down version of a slew of photos, most of them pretty boring since they were shot from the back seat of a small car flying down narrow country roads in Ireland with hedge rows on either side of the road. If you have question, just ask. I may have enough of my brain functioning to be able to answer it. After church on the 12th, we drove to the ruins at Kilmacduagh. Fascinating place. We wandered through the remains of the cathedral and smaller churches. If you want a better description go to Wikipedia (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kilmacduagh_monastery). That site also mentions the Burrens, a large area scoured bare by the last receding glacier. Very alien landscape of bare rock. We finished the trip at Linnane’s, a seafood restaurant just across the bay from Gallway. There is no picture here because I was too busy eating.

Wonderful group of photo, Teri! Yep - when the food arrives at the table, I tend to forget about the camera, too! LOL

That building doesn't look too stable, I'd be afraid it would fall on me.

Looks like you've unwittingly travelled back in time to a world in which Dungeons and Dragons was everyday reality. Luckily you could find the portal leading back to the present world, huh? :)

Love the shots of the old church. Ireland has some reeeeeally old churches, and great old manuscripts (done by hand with wild beasts on them, etc), and it must be great to see these ruins in person. The burrens does look like the moon. And it would be great if, after coming home, the food you ate (at that dinner you didn't photograph) sent you their pics of YOU, with the note, "you were too busy stuffing your faces, so we took a few of you---enjoy!"

I'll bet you could feel the power of the history there. I think your descriptions paint a clear picture that enhances the photos.
