Neat picture.I lived about 50 yards from mainline tracks from 1973 to 81. The needle on my record player would bounce across the record when a train came by. I slept through it even when they blew their horns. One time there was a four locomotive derailment in the intersection and down the tracts. The locomotives were on there sides semi dug into the ground. The railway companies sent giant cranes in by rail. They used all three cranes to lift one locomotive onto the rails. The cranes struggled to lift them. Their rear ends lifted off the ground and their engines were screaming.

Interesting memory from Steve2 (in duplicate!) I love that the locomotive is entering the shot from the left, but hasn't traversed the whole shot yet. I assume this is in motion: Maybe it's stationery, I don't know. But it looks like it's en route, but hasn't gotten out of the picture yet. Love the big monolithic presence of it, surrounded by desolate sand and concrete (and tiny little tree-like weeks...like cacti in an old Western.) You captured a formidable presence...
(Harry, if it interests you, this is the opening 4 minutes or so of an old classic film, "La Bete Humaine"---the Human Beast---which involves an old steam locomotive, filmed from inside the locomotive...you can ignore it; but if you see it, see how the director shows wonderful shots of the tracks, the train blasting through tunnels, picking up water from the tracks, etc....if it interests you, it's here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_XpkR6sV_tg)
