(As an aside, I always felt oil pastels were mocking me, though regular pastels eluded me entirely...) In any case, your old portraiture was made for oil pastels, in that it's very intense, introspective and bold; and you dive into the oil media with great gusto. That deep crimson-tinged brown hair feels very typical of your portraiture back then; in its intensity and boldness. And you use it for her eyes and the shadows too. The lips are standouts, in deep dark reds (picked up by the straps of her top too), and you dive into the smeariness of the medium, letting hues mix in her skin. From all the old portraits I've seen of yours, you captured a very intense feeling in nearly all of them (with gazes to match---as here); and your choice of a deep tan/almost amber sets off the other tones (in this image) with a kind of dark 'aura'. You had intense vision in these works: These people stare out at us with real power and mystery.
