"They shouldn't be here," Monique Turner growled. "And they definitely SHOULDN'T be on Mars!"
A guy walking across from her stopped and looked at her. "Who you're talking about?"
Really? Just Really?! she thought to herself. Out loud she told him, "Where have YOU been these last few years? I'm talking about THEM!"
With a sigh she jerked her head upward. He followed her eyes upward toward a large poster against a wall. Against a backdrop of stars and planets, a human female and child stood looking upward.
In between them was a fox. A fox standing upright just like a human, about the same height as the grown lady; wearing some sort of military uniform. The accompanying text read: "Humankind and the Melani. Towards Tomorrow, Together."
"Oh, the Space Foxes," the guy said.
Monique rolled her eyes. "Space Foxes," she repeated, then adding a snort. "Whoever came up with that name must have thought themselves cute. What they really are are imperialists; in every sense of the word. They're going to make whatever us humans have done look like child's play. I'm certain of it!"
"Come on babe," the guy responded. "They seem legit. Yeah, I've heard they've caused some stir or another, but they don't mean us anything serious-"
Monique's eyes widened. "Excuse me?! EXCUSE ME! THEY 'don't mean us anything serious?!' THEY plopped down on Mars without so much as a 'How do you do?' for almost a year. And then for almost ten years after that THEY built up cities and an orbiting space station. They didn't even want to call it 'Mars,' but some other name.
"And they're 'studying' Europa. And their soldiers are here on Earth as part of an-" She paused to stick her finger into her mouth. "'diplomatic' mission, allowed to be fully armed! We're letting them worm their way in towards their taking this planet over!"
The guy's mouth gaped open. "Woah, I never thought of it that way."
She shook her head in disbelief. Bonehaded macho doofus. "Should have been obvious. But it can be stopped. It WILL be stopped!"

the dialogue sounds oh-too-familiar. Where have I heard something like this before?
Great work

Strangely enough, it would be the only thing Monique and He-Who-Should-Not-Be-Named have in common.

Kinda reminds me of those lizard aliens from the "V" series way back when.. "We're your friends.... Until we decide to have you for dinner.."
Really great series of panels and dialogue, Wes!
