Description
Ursula Le Guin was one of the great minds of the 20th century; a deep thinker and a gifted author. Her Earthsea books were truly imaginative and dealt with issues not often tackled seriously in fantasy; gender, societal roles, the nature of evil, personal choice etc. They still stand head and shoulders above most more recent (and dare I say it more derivative) fantasy works, and are among the few fantasy books that bear regular revisiting.
Of the series, "The Tombs of Atuan" is possibly the most interesting, and I remember reading it as a child and finding it engagingly sinister. For this image, here's my take on the main character of the story, the young high priestess of the Tombs, Arha "the eaten one",.
The scenery is a mash of Flipmode's "outback" and "road to hell", recoloured to suit. The tombstones are Poisen's "Cliff Demons 2" combined with Hankster's "Temple ruins" and the outfit is a dynamic dress and shawl from optiplex (which required about 20 iterative drapes and pose adjustments to allow the arm to be positioned!).

Beautiful scene. I love how the stones lead the viewer's eye from one end of the frame to the other. Wonderful composition! :)
