Description
A Grumman J2F "Duck" uses a lighthouse as a turning pylon, something sure to irk the lighthouse keeper more than a stormy sea.
The Grumman "Duck" was used by all the armed forces from the mid 1930's throughout WW2. The "Duck" was primarily used for general and light transport, but also filled roles as anti-submarine patrol, air-sea rescue, reconnaissance, scouting and mapping, and target tow tug. Another welcome sight for a flier or seaman forces to spend some time in the drink.
Nice Grumman J2F "Duck" model found on 3dWarehouse with some modifications and additional texture work.
Lighthouse from Jack Tomalin.
Models set up in PoserPro, C4d, and Daz Studio; composed, lighting, texture adjustments, and rendered in Vu6Infinite; finished in Ps Cs3.

My dad was a Navy Machinist's Mate in the late 1930s...sometimes he'd ride in a Duck on a reconnaissance flight. He'd be in the third seat, down inside the float. Dad said that landing was torture, not only because of the bumpy ride but also because of the incredible racket as the plane hit the water.

Beautiful picture. The mist makes it. Like a misty autumn day somewhere in the northern part of the east coast. Well made.

Awesome render. My dad was an ART2C and on his first tour of duty during WW2 was assigned to ride in the center section between the pontoon and fuselage. The picture brought back the stories he used to tell about his experience.
