Pencils. This is in the early stages (maybe half an hour of work or so) but I think you can already get a good feel for what the final thing will look like, so I am uploading it now. The model for this is my friend Charlie (for those who follow my work, yes, the only other standard portrait I ever do is of my father, who was also named Charlie. This is probably just a coincidence). The idea here is that Charlie is extremely impressed by something going on to the left of the frame. You probably would love to see what it is, but that is not going to happen. Instead you get a ton of empty space behind him. This sort of "troll the viewer" concept is something I have been having a lot of fun with recently, and have done it a few times in various ways. I actually came up with this idea about a month ago, but got immersed in paperwork (which may still interrupt the drawing process here) and never go around to actually drawing it. The idea is about trolling you, but it actually is a pretty decent likeness of charlie, and I might give it to him when I move (which is probably about two weeks away, depending on how quickly some government paperwork is handled). Comments/suggestions are welcome. This is a long way from done and there is still time for large changes.
