Description
Like the soft breeze of a summer's night, the dark elf made her way to the throne room of the Queen of the Fair Elves. Her mission was to steal the Queen's Golden Goblet, a goblet that was supposed to impart to the imbiber its magical powers. Her master, The First Prince of Dark Elves, lusted after this goblet ever since he became aware of it and its powers. He was determined he should have it. He could wait no longer, and, on this fateful night, he sent his most trusted and cunning elf to accomplish the mission.
Eyeing the goblet and before alighting onto the main floor of the throne room, the elf stopped to listen for any noises that might mean danger. Hearing nothing, like a streak of lightning, she made her way to the throne and grasped the goblet, clutching it to her breast.
Leaving the Queen's castle as quickly as she had entered it, the elf made her way to the castle deep in the Forest of Ever Darkness. While rushing to the Prince's castle, the elf noticed that the goblet was giving off heat, and by the time she had reached her master's chamber, her hands were covered with small blisters.
Not complaining to her master about her minor injuries, she filled the goblet with grog. Her master gloatfully and greedily drank down the grog. Upon finishing the goblet's contents, he closed his eyes and laid back on his chair as if asleep. Believing this was a sign that the Prince was pleased, the dark elf smiled since she knew she would receive a handsome reward. She waited for some type of response from the Prince, but he said nothing. Cautiously she spoke to him and getting no response, she gently shook his shoulder. No response. It was then that she realized he was dead. Crying, she frantically ran out of the room seeking help.
The Prince's avarice, envy and unbridled lust for power was his undoing. Little did he know that one who drank from the goblet had to be pure of heart and intent. Otherwise...well we know what happens.

You do such great work with dear Madde's models. What a masterpiece of a image with a super story hon.
I think of this character as a drow elf, which are known to be thieves. Played them in D&D years ago. Bummer that he died from it. She should have thought twice on that since she had them blisters.

Fine scene with a complicated story.

Great story and a cool story, Barb. I'd say he got his just desserts. One must be careful when drinking from an enchanted goblet.

This is an excellent book cover. Wonderful light and shadows and a mysterious mood. The story was good; greedy and power-hungry leaders need to fall.

Just discovered your work via the MixedMedia section. Really nice!
Since you have 'critical comments welcomed' in effect: on my iPad, most of your work seems too dark/midrange and low contrast to me. You might try a final 'auto levels' in PhotoShop as the last step before posting.

Beautifully done I love the traditional look of the image and your words weave a very vivid and tragic tale of greed.

well, given what's going on in the power alleys of our land, I can't help but think of our leader when I read your story about this prince. And the elf is like the many souls who get snared in the Prince's greedy desires...(boy will it be nice to not have to compare anything to DJT anymore...) Anyway, you told your tale like a genuine tale-teller, and I love your visualization. You have a painterly feel, like you painted it in oils...and I love how the elf turns to us, acknowledging us---but she's bold enough to not run: She looks strong-willed and undeterred. You have strong musty shadows here, and fine use of banners and other artifacts of a dark medieval feel. Plus the elf's purple hair is a great accent (she's got purple in her face too). It's a magical image, and it feels so painterly, in fact almost like pastels...I love how you transformed your poser image. And I'm with Steve: If a goblet gives you blisters, you might wanna try a glass...
