Description
I know this is a drab shot, but there's special beauty in drab.
When you see gray shadows, you see all kinds of colors hiding out. A break in the sky can bring sudden, new hues. I processed this a bit to compensate for low-resolution, but I just liked the misty, nostalgic feeling of it...like the city is sad and pensive, and just doesn't want to be seen.
The foreground, btw, is a tiny bay off of Lake Michigan, w/ an iced piling and cracked ice, which create a "desert" feeling. You expect a tumbleweed to roll by...
I'll post more colorful work soon...just wanted to share some of the otherworldly sights we get in this city.
Thanks for your visits and support, they're all greatly appreciated!
Have a fine week,
Mark
(ps---some of you have asked, "do you ever fall in"? Oh yeah. You think that water's cold? You haven't lived till you've fallen into this stuff...it's shallow, but don't ask about the cold...)

It seems to be a different planet, on which living ice is moving and constantly changing shape. In a certain way, the photograph seems to be a reflection of a fearful vision, where the world only consists of solid materials, that is, no animals, no trees, nor other vegetation; only the ice grows, and the skyscrapers. A chill, cold world that nobody likes or can love. Desolate, watching, while not knowing where or who the spies are or will be, but they are somewhere, creepy. I love this photo, Mark.

You keep calling these ice-laden city and lake images, "drab" but, I agree, they are not. This is a different shot than the last dedication I did for you, but it's no-less wonderful. That column in front gives this shot a grounding point and it adds the feeling of stability, like it's calling me to climb up and sit on top to watch the daylight change. The layers of the ice lead the eye to the layers of windows and then finally to the layered clouds. This is a magical shot!

It's actually a lovely shot, Mark. In a chilly Chicago kind of way.... I do love the almost dreamlike quality of this - as if seen from a distant memory of another time. I really love this shot!
I've only been to Chicago a couple times, and never got to explore, but you have a way of bringing out the city's more tranquil qualities.
It's kind of murky here today as well.. Not so much ice, just a slow, cold drizzle - and I actually saw a snowflake or three...

Oh I just love this, I see where I was walking along the lake shore, where I had a bed for some night in Chicago... and I like this mood with little dust on a strong icy day - you did a great photo and you was outside in the freezing wind. Bravo Mark, it was it worth!!

It's icing up quick there. Amazing how fast winter arrives.

Very nice photo Mark. I like the difference between the sharp forground and the dusty background very much.

Post apocalyptic all the way in this stellar capture of your Lake Michigan and the Chicago skyline at its drabbest, Mark.

I think, in my opinion, that your winter scenes highlight the beauty that winter provides. Where a lot of people would look at this and say, 'there is no way I would be outside in this!' But that is their feelings and they are welcome to them. Myself, I would be out with my camera and extra batteries and cards just taking photos of everything, Thank you.

if it was not so cold, I would enjoy seeing in person,--but I will enjoy your foto instead
