The wing doesn't really look like a wing. It looks like hair or something, with the lines running all the way through the length of it. Drawing the structure of feathers on a wing is not very hard, but you would never guess how to do it without looking at a reference: There are partially concentric layers of feathers, where the top layers are at the joint in the wing and the bottom layers are on the edges. There are fewer layers than you might think, usually about 3-5.
Probably the biggest surprise is just how much bigger feathers on wings are than feathers anywhere else. Wings actually don't have nearly as many of them as you would think, because they are so big. You would almost never draw individual feathers on the body of a bird, but even at a relatively low level of detail, it still makes sense to draw them on the wings.
