Description
Well...I waited 'till Steve returned so I could post this 'shoutout': It's for steve2, and I'm really happy to do this at last...
As an old abstractionist (ie, me), I have a special place in my heart for abstractionists...and steve is one of our best. His abstractions are packed with intersecting overlapping worlds, and with such vitality and contrasts (and visual-music and bursts, etc) that I jumped for joy when I discovered them. For those of you who haven't discovered him, go to Steve's gallery, go back several gallery-pages, and sit...you'll see whole worlds colliding and coming together, w/ all kinds of waves-of-energy...they're symphonic.
He also posts some of his older drawings and paintings: Aside from his technique---which is rock-solid---his interpretations are intense: His portraits peer into his subjects' souls; and, to my eye, they burn with intensity and insight. I studied figure drawing wayyyyyy back (my drawing partner was Giotto---who died in 1337, to show you how long I've been around), but Steve is way past where I was. His portraits pierce. And man, does he dive in with oil-based drawing media...whoosh...
So if you don't know his work, go to his gallery, peruse a few years, and sit a while. I wanted to bring him to more attention...Happy New Year Steve, and many more years of terrific and insightful inspiration to you! Keep up your electrifying work!mark
(ps---the above abstracts are kind of motley, but they mean well! Also, they're huge, so there's more detail, full view)

Fantastic and very lovely abstracts for your friend. Yes, he sure is an abstractionist and a good one too. I love the portraits he makes. Very well done and still kind of abstract :-)

Some truly wonderful images for your friend, here. The top looks like neon dust storm that has plans for leaving the world a prettier place as it passes through. The middle image is flowers or dinner (or both if you like your salad right out of the flower garden) The bottom one is dark and interesting. I like that I can almost see pipework like maybe I'm sitting under the sink (which would be super weird) or in the basement fumbling around with a match when the lights go out. Oh! or maybe I'm sitting on stage hiding behind a drum set as the concert begins... So many worlds to visit and explore when you post. Thanks for making my mind wander...

The first image makes me think of our world in its final days of ignoring climate change predictions.
the second is just soothing and beautiful.
The third, to me, represents a pipe dream on some really good drugs (legal ones at that)
Wonderful dedication to your friend.

A trio of amazing trippy makeovers from original captures Mark. Love your color blends. Still feeling sick, but more like bowel blockage again. Yikes!

Mark, this certainly is a wonderful dedication to your friend. I find it extremely difficult to pick out a favorite, but for some reason feel drawn to the one in the middle. I'll be sure to check out his gallery.

I love this wonderful and colorful trio of abstracts, Mark! I kind of get the same feel as Mike on the first one - it does have an ominous feel to it. The second one is soothing and rather hypnotic if you look at it intensely (or maybe I've just had too much coffee today), and the third has a definite steampunk thing going on - and I love it!
A sweet trio, and a great dedication, Mark!

Looks very nice!

eekdog has bowel blockage? That can be most severe. I had that, another one of my several ailments detected by a CAT scan in 2019. If it's caused by what I think it is, then a bottle of magnesium citrate should take care of that in a very short period of time. But I digress. The manic abstract on top looks like a map of the world peppered with a variety of several colors, contrasts, tints, hues, and blends. The middle abstract presents a closeup inset of a frigid continent atop a closer view of the continent. Loverly color manipulations again, Mark. And the bottom abstract strongly suggests the night time launch of a space shuttle into a very wild melange of black and bright colors. The circular image at the top left may be a space craft of some sort, terrestrial or extraterrestrial, something beyond my ken. Stellar job, my friend! Steve will appreciate it.

Happy New Year to you Mark. You already made my new year. You are very kind, caring and thoughtful. Thank you for the Shoutout. If I ever get discouraged I'll just reread what you wrote. I love all three of your images. The composition of the first one is balanced and the colors are rich and bright. The shapes are beautiful. The middle picture is beautiful. The way the white of the front square flows into the back or is it the front. The third picture is great with the high contrast black and white. Super shapes and colors. Love your artwork and writing.
