Description

This was also an attempt at what could be called my "Ballet Doodling series". Here I tried to emphasis what I caught onto in my previous doodle: A highly tensed back whilst trying to present a very relaxed and flowing appearance on the general silhouette of the upper torso. I can not say I hit the nail on the head as there was literally no model posing in-front of me for this one. I believe I have not done a bad job on the shoulder blades. But showed a lot less success at the waist and hips. There is also this thing about trying to make it as sketchy as I can without sacrificing the impression I hope for it to impose. There is so much happening in the dancers body whilst attempting to maintain this specific pose... I tried to concentrate on as much of it that would tell her story as I could manage. I have always had a great admiration to ballet even prior ever dancing. There is a disciplined elegance about it that is not correctly describable with words alone. Of the female models I have to date drawn that have posed for me: I can insist that ballerinas were possibly the ones I took greatest pleasure working on. There is always an energy connection to begin with and they are of outstanding durability to hold a pose. All this of course with almost always a pose worth capturing. Awesome. I also recently returned after a long absence. I like the geometry and structure of this image very much, although I do not understand why this woman chose to wear ballet slippers and nothing else.

It was not really her choice as to what she was to wear.. There lacks a story behind this one for this time.. The rendition is of a series of paintings I have done which just developed simply out of practice scribbles to get my fingers to work... The idea was never actually to stick with her being nude... But it developed such when some of my sketches (We are talking about literally tens of them.. well over a hundred) were just looking too correct in anatomical accuracy so I just couldn't dress them up to cover them.

As for the pointe (the ballet shoes I presume you are referring to) were from my inability to draw feet good enough at the time as well as it's necessity for the dancer to be able to hold the posture.

Thank you for the time you have spared to present your thoughts on it.. Much appreciated

I have begun sketching again during the past year after quite the hiatus. This piece really connects to me not only due to the energy of the pose, but also the rawness of the sketch. You give the work an impression that not only the subject has been captured in a moment, but that the sketch was so gracefully completed in that same moment. It is so very lovely in all aspects. You have made my day with this. So wonderfully done.

And these words... So generously complimenting with so much more than I would have ever dared to even ask for: Have made my day good sir!

As I have stated to answer an above question to why she was naked save from her pointe... they were initially sketches.. doodles in fact but some of them; such as this one; were rendered out to revive more of her features I hoped would compliment the image. but whilst doing so: I felt it to be a crime to take from her the loose strokes that pretty much were her "from a sketch" inheritance.

I have no words that can correctly express my gratitude for your making all of my time related in it's creation worth the while. Thank you very much.
