Description
So, I'm looking forward to Spring, as I'd said before, and in that light, I wanted to paint some Cabbage Roses. I'd painted this in acrylic on paper and put a little more time on detail. I really don't consider myself a floral painter, I'm more of a landscape painter. But I do love flowers and this is good practice for me to paint them. I hope you all like the final work! I'm also starting to post for sale some of my origional painting, so you know... I hope you would wish me luck on that new endeavor, that would be great!! The origional paintings I've got for sale are posted on my website... Anyway, I hope you have a lovely day everyone, take care!! Artist Dan Seitzinger - www.danseitzinger.com

If the only thing you paint is natural landscapes that include flowers then your range will be very narrow indeed. I am pleased you decided to branch out at least a little bit.
There are two things that bother me about this composition. The first is that the flowers themselves in this image seem perhaps a little bit too organized, facing either straight up, or straight towards the nearest side. I would have liked to see at least one of them have a bit more of a tilt, particularly nice would be to tilt towards the viewer a little bit also.
The second issue I have with this is with the leaves and stems, which seem unable to decide if they are going to be clearly visible or blurred out, and seem to be trying to mix the two styles in a disorganized way. The result is a bit of a muddy looking mess of paint.

Hello tuerda, thank you for your feedback!! So, having one of the larger roses facing the viewer is a great idea, instead of at an angel, or side view... I'll keep that in mind for a future floral painting. The look of blur and suggestions of foliage is a style I attempted that is taught by a well known floral painting artist, by the last name Jenkins! Actually, it is a married couple, by the name Gary and Kathwren Jenkins... Like Bob Ross, they where aired on PBS, teaching floral painting for over 50 years. They also had a very popular TV Show in Germany too, called Farbiflora, I think. You can find them on YouTube also... So, I was trying to use there well known method of scrubbing in only some darker suggestions of foliage, but also try to have some that are more prominent and in-focus also. So yes, they do this technique on their paintings, quite often. The difference is, they paint in Oil Paints, where I'm painting in Acrylic Paint. The drawback is acrylic dries so much more faster, so, I have to make any decisions to soften or blur things, like the eaves on the fly, I can't come back an hour later and do that. They also emphasize being to paint loosely and be very loose with the brush-strokes, especially when painting the mottled background and the out-of-focus blurred foliage. Anyway, I was just trying to paint this in their style. Maybe later I'll try a different style from another artist altogether. Thank you for the feedback, I'm still learning and YES, I do like to try new things! That's what makes art fun, challenging and exciting to me, take care!! :-) Artist Dan Seitzinger
