Steve, this is a beautiful, touching portrait. It exudes a gentle love. I love how your rendering of the hair makes it almost like a halo or crown. You caught a very simple gaze---maybe he posed for the photo, but the drawing conveys a relaxed, very slight awareness of whoever's taking the photo...he looks lost in thought, instead, which makes it very natural, inviting. Beautiful eyes too, and gentle other features.
His shirt is rendered in folds (as I presume it would be when he's in this position), and his hands are gentle too. With all your very intense oil-based-pastel works, this is like a gentle whisper...and yet it has a quiet intensity of its own. Beautiful, caring work: You show the roots of your artistry in pieces like this, and they run deep.
