Description

Though the constellation of cancer is associate with the crab in the western tradition, throughout history it has represented a variety of things to different cultures, including a snapping turtle to the Mesopotamians, a scarab to the Egyptians, a crayfish to the Romans and even at one point a water beetle. One thing all those have in common though is tough armour, so that became the theme here. Cancer is ruled by the moon, and associations include water, rubies, moonstones and the colour grey. Because the astronomical constellation is very dim, it is also often associated with darkness; Dante, writing in the Divine Comedy (Paradiso) makes a comment to that effect. This was a real challenge to put together in DS3, as there is precious little compatible content out there these days. I resorted to a static (but high poly) unmapped crab prop I used years ago in my Moon tarot, and tried to make made a virtue out of necessity with strong lights and deep shadows... needs must etc etc.
