Description

I very, very rarely get my characters **directly** involved in weighty social / political / religious topics. But this time, I have to speak out. It's past high time to end the insanity. The media and our so-called leaders and "experts" have done little more than incite mass panic over this COVID-19 issue. Governments from the top down have managed to stir the already boiling-over pot of panic and helplessness. And our sensationalist media happily adds fuel to the fire in an effort to be number one with the ratings. That way they can make even more money from their advertising programs. By cancelling **EVERYTHING** from college classes to baseball games, we are being denied any kind of diversions to provide a few moments of respite. All we are able to do lately is sit in our houses or apartments and watch the endless drivel of panic-inducing bulls##t on TV. Or the web. Or any other form of communication. The checkout lines at Sam's and Costco's are already an hour or more wait due to the panic. I have to wonder when the shootings at the grocery store over a can of carrots will start. Am I saying there's not a problem? Of course not. It is a **serious** situation. But the way to address it is with **LOGIC and INTELLIGENCE**. Not overly dramatic, panic inducing sensationalism being shoved down our throats. Yes - use common sense like you would during ANY outbreak. Wash your hands frequently. Cover your mouth when you feel a sneeze coming on. If it makes you feel better, carry a bottle of disinfectant in your pocket or purse, and use it. But this is not the Apocalypse. Let's stop acting like it is. We've gone through Swine flu, SERS, MERS, and God knows what else. Yes, some didn't make it, and my heart goes out to the families of those lost to those diseases as well as those lost to this current one. I don't know about anyone else, but I've plenty of things left to do. And I plan on doing them. COVID or no... Take care, be safe, and tell someone you love them. Thanks for "listening.." Great image and commentary, Rod. I, like people around me, have decided that if it happens, it happens. Since I work at a food band, we CANNOT shutter our doors. People still need to eat and I, when I'm a manager, will do my best to make sure the people have food and comfort.

I think the place of origin(unethical research) will suddenly have cure/vaccine that they are willing to sell for trillions

outstanding depiction Rod and as always they are dynamite. my family doctor is under the impression that it will die out as the weather gets hotter. it is 78 F inside of my house now

Yep - I'm sure someone will get obscenely rich from all this...

On the bright side, it does give me a few story ideas..... 😉

Busy stores indeed Rod, I work at the biggest king soopers in my city and two Safeway stores. One being the busiest in the state of Co. I've seen mega shoppers, several wearing the pointless masks. My bread section has been getting pounded. A 25 ft section at that kings store of TP is gone. Nothing. Hand sanitizer 0, limited hand soap and PT. Lots of other items getting hit.

Yeah the media is eating all this up. Especially CNN! makes you wanna crawl in a freaking hole.

I'm mostly worried for my 85 year old mom next month more then myself.

But know you hot these spineless scammers ones taking advantage of the current situation.

Great speach Rod.

Yeah, panic that really helps, doesn't it? If you want accurate information in the US, ignore the media and look at the CDC web site or the World Health Organisation web site. No panic, just the facts...

In Italy, the current situation is disastrous, we are a nation in quarantine, completely closed, only the essential shops, food and medical, operate. We hope that everything will pass quickly. I learned that all field hospitals in China are being dismantled, which can only please us.👍

Logic?... Intelligence?.. In GovenMent(al)?... just remember that an Elephant is a Mouse built to Gov't specs and the Gov't has NEVER ended a department because they "fixed the problem".... the People are eventually going to have to step up and tell them to get their heads out of their backsides and Knock This Sh*t OFF... Well I can always DREAM cant I?

RodS

Yeah, logic and intelligence from Government is a bit of a stretch.... But like you said, we call all dream.. 😉

Great work, and I wish more people would stop and think. This virus is serious and it needs to be dealt with, but it's not the zombie apocalypse. I see "experts" predicting that 150 million people in the U.S will get sick, despite the fact that, in China, only about 80,000 cases have been reported since December, and the number of new cases there is already decreasing. Hair-on-fire panic isn't helping anybody, but I guess it does generate clicks.

as usual great image.. as for the virus.. I firmly believe something China was making for germ warfare got out.. and I don't think we are even getting close to the correct info about what it really is.. BUT .. someone is making a lot of $$$$$ fueling the panic .. not just the media.. as for the idiots that are panicking? well they are idiots after all

A little context because, apparently, a lot of snowflakes have come of age in the past ten years.

Back in 2010 the CDC estimated that about 59 million Americans contracted the H1N1 virus (swine flu). 265,000 were hospitalized as a result and 12,000 (12,000 !!) died.

Nobody panicked.

Total deaths from Wuhan Virus to date: 39 (26 in one senior center in state of Washington) :-/

Thanks, Rod, for a spot of sanity amidst the mindless, media-driven hysteria.

I work at a grocery store, and yesterday lines were freaking long. Pasta and meat sections virtually wiped out. It was like folks were gearing up for a hurricane. Wondering if shortages are coming, especially toilet paper?

We shouldn't panic. However, we MUST practice common-sense hygiene, which include above all else: WASHING YOUR HANDS AFTER COMING OUT OF THE JOHN! (Sorry for caps, but it irks me to see folks come out of a stall and straight out the freaking door. I wish I was bold enough to call them out face-to-face.)

Stay safe out there, and pray this subsides in due time.

Fun image about a troubling situation...this virus is serious, but folks do have to get a grip...stop believing the crap on social media and start listening to folks such as Dr. Anthony Fauci...and don't believe anything that drops out the mouth of the evil moron at 1600--all he cares about is keeping the actual #'s of infected individuals from emerging--it's always all about him. If one has underlying health conditions and/or is over 60 do the correct actions (hand washing, avoiding crowds, etc), because this virus really is targeting these individuals (like moi)...This virus is not a cold or the flu--the death rate, according to Fauci, et alia, is 10 times that of the flu...and that is a scientific FACT.

well stated, Rod, by you and by G4 and Ar. (And I like the white and silver tone of your visual, along with those great outfits and masks. You put them against a very institutional wall, which reminds me of a hospital. The image is really well done, as usual.)

Yes, everyone has to take this seriously, but not manically. It's a serious flu, and it's dangerous, but a lot more people have died of 'normal' flus in the past, and we didn't see this level of panic. If we had a semblance of decent leadership---who didn't decimate so many of our scientific institutions, and who actually respected science, and who knew how to speak to a nation---they could, with a few speeches, stop this panic in a moment. But that's not possible with the egotist we have in tow at the moment. And the media, looking for big stories, just pounds away. It's very serious, but it needs sanity---your message is correct. Some vendors are selling bottles of rubbing alcohol for 30 bucks a bottle---normally a couple of dollars) Nice that people, in challenging times, are thinking of their fellow humans~ Let's hope we have more responsible leadership by this time next year. Well done, Rod. It does feel apocalyptic right now. Imagine what it's like in Italy (as one of your fans attests.) The virus has gone down considerably in China, let's hope it does here too. With the divisions in this country at present, yeah, there could be riots over a can of carrots. (The real carrots have probably taken off for South America by now...) There's some macabre comedy in that, but I'll let it go for another time...

The situation is serious but I'm not ready to panic over the virus. I am worried about the people though who believe that the world is coming to an end again, like the year 2000 and the 2012 Mayan calander fiasco. Buying up all the stores products in bulk driving up prices from the business owners who take advantage of the pandemic. I really love this world! Sorry that's just a little sarcasim, it's ok. Anyway I wish you all well and hope things don't get worse. Live long and prosper! Great comment and render Rod.

A good image and message, Rod.

I live with, and take care of, my 92 year old mother. I'm worried for her; this panic doesn't help. I wish we had someone at the top who could calm the nation/world instead of spewing untrue and careless words.

An excellent scene full of humor! Covid 19 is dangerous but less contagious than measles or gastroenteritis, for example. Don't panic! It is the over-information relayed by social networks that propagates psychosis ...
