Description

I very, very rarely get my characters **directly** involved in weighty social / political / religious topics. But this time, I have to speak out. It's past high time to end the insanity. The media and our so-called leaders and "experts" have done little more than incite mass panic over this COVID-19 issue. Governments from the top down have managed to stir the already boiling-over pot of panic and helplessness. And our sensationalist media happily adds fuel to the fire in an effort to be number one with the ratings. That way they can make even more money from their advertising programs. By cancelling **EVERYTHING** from college classes to baseball games, we are being denied any kind of diversions to provide a few moments of respite. All we are able to do lately is sit in our houses or apartments and watch the endless drivel of panic-inducing bulls##t on TV. Or the web. Or any other form of communication. The checkout lines at Sam's and Costco's are already an hour or more wait due to the panic. I have to wonder when the shootings at the grocery store over a can of carrots will start. Am I saying there's not a problem? Of course not. It is a **serious** situation. But the way to address it is with **LOGIC and INTELLIGENCE**. Not overly dramatic, panic inducing sensationalism being shoved down our throats. Yes - use common sense like you would during ANY outbreak. Wash your hands frequently. Cover your mouth when you feel a sneeze coming on. If it makes you feel better, carry a bottle of disinfectant in your pocket or purse, and use it. But this is not the Apocalypse. Let's stop acting like it is. We've gone through Swine flu, SERS, MERS, and God knows what else. Yes, some didn't make it, and my heart goes out to the families of those lost to those diseases as well as those lost to this current one. I don't know about anyone else, but I've plenty of things left to do. And I plan on doing them. COVID or no... Take care, be safe, and tell someone you love them. Thanks for "listening.." RodS - I really appreciate you starting these high-impact threads. I appreciate getting to read everyone’s opinions and info. In these high stress times, it’s just good to hear what people from all over the country - and even all over the world! - are thinking and doing. I’m hoping to be able to just stay close to home for a few weeks, and watch it all go by.

Very cool !!! Digital_Dames could be right. I believe the Chinese were experimenting with germ warfare and screwed up. Since they are a major drug supplier for the world, they would have had us over the barrel had they been able to unleash it on us first.

Well done dear Rod and great message: It's terrible, all these nasty selfish people who think only of themselves and yet we should all stick together, I wish you and yours much strength to survive this crisis!

Well done & well said. Though I do accept that people need to be protected, there is definitely no need to panic.

(Figures apply to Germany) If the same mind set was applied to car travel, we would never drive a car in our lives again: every year about 3500 people die of car accidents in this country. So far, there are 159 deaths by Corona (and altough a total annoyance to those who died, some of them would have passed away Corona or not, because they were well over 79 and would have died of any illness): even if I take that figure, divide by the weeks we know about the virus and multiply to get a year's death toll, I would reach just about a quarter of people dying in car crashes. Has anybody thought of vaccinating against bonnets? Or is thinking about staying at home until road travel is obsolete?

Don't get me wrong: it is essential to protect those endangered by the virus (about 5% in this country). But if we hadn't given it a new name, some of us would have "only" experienced a relatively mild flu. And there are 20.000 people dying of flu every year worldwide.

So, if the majority of people thinks, staying at home will reduce the risks - so be it. But please stop panicing about it.
