Description

Sétanta, known as Cú Chulainn (the hound of Culainn) is unsurpassed among the legendary warriors of Ireland. Even in death it is said his sword could not be prised from his hand, and his enemies feared to approach until the Morrigan, in the form of raven, perched on his shoulder and all knew he had passed...

Thank you, Joe, for this splendid and well-propped image. A marvelous slice of Irish culture in the form of this legendary fighter which for me at least had heretofore been unknown. We had to cancel St. Patrick's Day festivities and missed an opportunity to celebrate the tremendous contributions the Irish have given America and especially New York City.

I bet the next time I'm hanging with my Irish buds, not one of them will know of this and that will be a shame.

And I imagine that the bird image on his shield has represented Morrigan for centuries. 😻 I have wanted to visit the famous stones of Ireland, but I am sure there is so much about them that I know nothing about. I love these stories you share with us, along with your very articulate story-telling images of them

If you do ever go, its usually considered that the stone called Clochafarmore, near Knockbridge outside of Dundalk is the one he tied himself to at the end.

in hindsight Molatov and co should have used a raven to see if Stalin was dead? A wonderful scene
