Description

I know people want them still alive for purchase, but I feel sorry for them couped in a small space on top of each other

That does look pretty awful, but from what I understand, crabs have the mental capacity of bugs, so I'm not sure they care.

same here in Japan, and not only crabs, they have all kinds of fish crammed together too... straight off the boats is best and the local harbour for fishing boats is only 30m away :)

it's definitely cruel to the crabs, I agree. The photo, as an abstract, is eye popping full size: The patterns are wonderfully complex, and the hues run from dark sepia browns to more golden browns. And the droplets falling down the glass add a whole other layer to the shot. (Speaking of the aesthetics isn't very kind to the crabs, but your photographic eye is keen as ever, here.) It would be nice if they killed the crabs painlessly before cooking them. Your shot, however, has amazing detail.

Such a sad life for a creature of the sea we know so little about.

The really bad part about cramming any creatures together like this is it can lead to things like we're going through now. In addition to being rather cruel.

I've had crab a few times - not my favorite, but if done right quite tasty. But I do hate the way they're marketed. Cool shot of these critters, Richard.
