Description

Actually, no intent on doing anything with La Femme. Two reasons. I've been feeling a need to "tech detox" lately. To engage in the *real*. Walks in the park, working on boats (I'm boatmaster for a rowing club which is closed for the first time in 140 years due to sars2 so I have time to "deep maintenance" dozens of boats), workworking, 3d printing (well, fixing my printer as the x axis driver failed), gardening. You know, *real* things. Feels good. Weather is perfect. Second, Poser has been driving me crazy. Sure, I can write scripts (another rant) to make up for some of the lack, but wow, it just fights development every step of the way. Things that should be one click end up taking days. And god help you if you do one step wrong and have to go back. It's not that it's impossible. The crashes. The lack on control and features. Sigh... It's just the feeling that development is in spite of Poser, not aided by it. I feel the larger community is gone, the smaller community is distracted with "I made this bit, now back to something more fun". Info and methods have to be scraped from forums... La Femme seems stagnant. It's just not fun. And there are other things that *are* fun. So, what little time I've had on the computer has been in Blender. It's moving relentlessly forward. What you can script is not only seamless, it's wicked fast. The API is rich. The community is engaging and thriving. The app (at 2.83) is very capable. I don't feel like I'm fighting the program but rather just learning. And often, I realize that I'm making things harder that they are and how something works is rather straight forward. Like selecting a loop. Click the bit closer to the direction you want the loop to go. It happens. The remeshing is cool. Some of the recent sculpt stuff is *wow*. Like its ability to treat bits as it they're rigged. Anyway, I updated all the content in Poser, including v2 of La Femme. Wanted to see what changed. Subtle, but nice. It's still difficult as heck to get good facial expressions. And Poser's inability to import morphs at specific subd hampers me too much. The facial chips, while nice are complex. For this figure, I've combined some of the chips into master controls for the smile. I wanted a subtle smile that didn't have the plastic rictus look that's typical. will probably mess with the chips some more. I was really going into Poser to play with toon characters since that's more Poser's thing. It's very difficult to get a level of realism in Poser, much easier in something else. So why bother? Why not play to Poser's strengths? Which is simpler GUI and toon-like results. Not saying that Poser masters can't do real. Just that I can't :D So this is what I rendered right before I loaded up Star to play with :) Poser 11.3 OOT Cynthia (texture) Biscuits Evi Hair ezdome Erin character (my freebie) expression - master linked to built-in face chips Off to the park and cafe. Pup walks and a flat white.

Thanks! I suppose my frustration is a bit of when Poser works well, it works very well. When it doesn't, there's like no amount of beating on it to get it to do what I want. It's like a Mac :D
