Description

Hey, everyone! I know I’ve been a bit of a stranger here over the last week or so.. This little ‘hiatus’ was the result of a number of things. In addition to a minor flood in my basement computer room (again), Jo had been having some issues with some anxiety attacks which were making her feel pretty rotten, and of course I was pretty concerned. We saw one of the doctors in our regular doctor’s office, and she was able to help a lot. She said their office has seen a real up-tick in cases like this in the past few weeks with everyone being stuck at home with all this COVID crap going on. She did prescribe some meds, but Jo seems to be doing better now since she knows it’s not just her going crazy. Me too! Restaurants are slowly starting to open for dine-in here with a few restrictions, and extra precautions. Today is our 49th (!) anniversary, and we were actually able to celebrate at our favorite steak / seafood place. It’s been 4 months since we were able to go out for a nice meal. It felt so good. Anyway…. About the art…. We’ve been going through a lot of stuff here at the house – doing some down-sizing since we want to get out of this place at some (hopefully not too distant) future time. I had forgotten that I had some old artwork stored in my home-built art / drafting table.. This piece was among several poster-sized works I’d done well over 18 years ago, when we were in our first house. This piece is mostly airbrush, with a bit of watercolor brushwork, and maybe a tiny bit of colored pencil work. I was relatively happy with most of it, except for her face and hands. No matter how I tried, I just never seemed to be able to get the hands or faces to look the way I had envisioned. Most of my airbrushed girls had faces more suited to a guy than a girl. Airbrushes can give you some wonderful results, but they don’t come with facial morph dials, unfortunately. This (physical) painting is huge – it took 8 scans then a trip through some stitching software I have that does a great job. It would have taken me hours to do the stitching in Photoshop. I’ll be popping in more often and will be putting in a lot of time on the next TNA page over the weekend. I’m doing a ton of re-organizing and getting rid of a bunch of stuff I’ve been hoarding for years (since the other house). I’m also going to be putting in a lot of time getting this place fixed up and doing some needed repairs and improvements. I just posted a new BEHIND THE SCENES to my You Tube channel where I talk a bit about our future plans. Hope you’re all doing well! As always, thanks so much for stopping by, and for all your wonderful comments and support! Now, I need to start catching up with all your inspirational art! I like this picture! I think it's a good image! There's a great atmosphere, both very realistic and a bit fantastic. Because of the clouds I think. And also the contrast between the brightly lit garden and the rest of the valley in the dark, with only the street lights... The moment is well represented: it's already dark and the low clouds are lit by the city lights. I really like the light on the boxwood and the texture of the violin is very good...it looks a little bit like Naive Art paintings...It's a painting with a timeless atmosphere...it reminds me of some record covers from the seventies...it's a painting with a timeless atmosphere...it reminds me of some record covers from the seventies... You can't see at all that it's several scans glued together... You did a great job, Rod !
