Description
I've been rather uninspired the last couple of weeks (not helped by finding the DS4 interface very unfriendly, which rather takes away from the pleasure of the creative experience). I have dragged myself back to it however, and for inspiration I've retuned to the old tales. In this case, not any particular old tale but the CONCEPT of old tales.
The storyteller in this picture is inspired by the 6th century Welsh poet Gwion Bach ap Gwreang (better known as Taliesin). Though some of his poems survive, he has become better known as an immortal mythical figure. He features in numerous tales both old and new, as servant to the sorceress Cerdiwen, companion of Bran the Blessed and bard of King Arthur, amongst others. He remains however, an archetypal story teller; he's not called Taliesin Ben Beirdd (Taliesin, chief of Bards) for nothing!

I like this wonderful fairy tale image, excellent work on the poses and expressions of your characters dear friend.

Fantastic fairy tale image.
Awesome characters, pose and expression.

The flames bring out the red coat really well and make a great divider between the younger (and by their clothes later in time) audience and the bard. Nice concept.

Thanks RRu.. i was trying to get the feel of something timeless without being jarringly anachronistic... all within a fairly limited selection of what i had in the runtime. I should probably invest in a few more outfits for M4 and some decent iray fabric shaders!

Magical!

well done
paul_gormley
and interesting background to the image, which is delightfully done along with the expressions of the listeners and the teller

Excellent!!

A beautiful fireside image. The children look like he is a very good story teller. I am familiar with Taliesin, from the novels about urban Fae, and other magical beings - by Charles de Lint.

Thanks Dragongirl. I've not read any deLint, though I think I probably should, given that I'm very forond of the that other Canadian fantasist, Guy Gavriel Kay. You might enjoy reading the original "Tale of Taliesin"; though not part of the Four Branches, its included in Lady Charlotte Guest's classic translation of the Mabinogion.

Very well done, especially the lighting from the campfire. The more you work with DS, the easier it should become. Every piece of software I use has some real annoying quirks, but usually the more I use it, the less annoying they become (unless of course it means I can't do what I need to do). Keep up the great work!

Alas my biggest problem with it is not being able to read the tiny fonts!

Fantastic illustration for this legend! The lighting is amazing!
