Description

This was done as a request/challenge from my wife. She challenged me to do a "Naked and Un-Afraid" on the beach with Onora. It seemed like a simple challenge, so I began working on it. Well, of course nothing is ever as simple as it should be. After working on the image for about a week, and still not happy with it, I decided to change focus for more of a pinup style image, since I really wasn't happy with the pose on this one. I finished that image (which can be seen here: https://www.renderosity.com/mod/gallery/?image_id=2947757), and of course, she liked this one better, so it was back to finish this one. What I didn't like about the image was the pose was stiff and unbalanced (not that it's a whole lot better now). I had already fixed all the issues with the arms from the canned pose I started with, but had only done a few adjustments to the legs and torso. I started looking at all the joint values and realized what the problem was, the hip was over rotated, some of the hip/torso/chest joints were bent in different directions, and there were odd twists in the legs (had already fixed similar issues in the shoulders/arms). So, I zeroed out everything from the upper chest down, and reposed it all. She still feels a bit stiff, but my wife is happy with it, and it's time to move on. The scene/background is the same as the last image (the Secluded Beach HDRI from HDRI Haven), just rotated differently (4 degrees vs 290 degrees in the previous image). The major source of lighting is from the HDRi, with rim lights using 8 spot light (4 on each side behind her), and a low intensity offset headlamp (-200 x and 1 y). I could have used a spot light in place of the headlamp, but I was being lazy. To get the proper scale for the HDRI, I set the "Dome Mode" to finite sphere, and the Dome Scale Multiplier to 5. One disadvantage to using an HDRI as your scene is that what you see is what you get, even if you don't want it. One issue was a beer can in the image (now cloned out), and the other is getting the feet to fit with the environment. for this image I moved the figure back and to the left until her right foot was in the depression in the sand (probably someone's footprint). I also had to adjust the rotation a bit so her left foot wasn't on the sea weed (or whatever the fibrous material is behind her left foot). I think the differences between this and the previous image show how dramatically different an HDRi can look when rotated. Rendered using Iray in Daz Studio Beta 4.12.2.6 Thanks for stopping by!!

Excelent work; superb naturalistic feel and wonderful textures. I'd say the pose is tense rather than stiff; the slightly forward set of the shoulders, the angle of the neck and blades held up all suggest she's squaring up for a fight. The smile implies she knows it too!

very nicely done; her feet stance seems well balanced and natural enough and her feet fit well with the background, it looks to all intents that it was rendered as one

"Naked and Afraid" uncensored version that is! Their rating would break the ceiling if it looked like this.

Impressive character....in every aspect....and the render and lighting are top notch....and a very understandable wife....!! letting you indulge yourself....if your looking for feedback....?....not sure....in my opinion and it is obviously only mine....the shadows are a little to dark...and hard edged....softer edges will give more cohesion....

what is missed in most rendering is yes the shadows are dark... obviously the closer the object to the ground the darker the shadow as shown in your background with the rock and the bush/plant.....her shadow would be darker at her feet but but substantially diminished at her head...and a lot softer....

Thanks! Yes, the shadows are too sharp. I noticed it too, but couldn't find a way to soften them (then got focused on other things and forgot about it ...opps). I think it's either an issue with Iray and the "ground" shadow catcher, or how DAZ has implemented it. I tried adding lights to soften the shadow and they had no effect, I tried adding a fog plane to diffuse the light, that didn't work either. Maybe editing the HDRI to spread out or diffuse the light source would work? I've noticed this in HDRI promo images at DAZ too, where the shadows of the 3D elements are sharper than the shadows in the HDRI. Thanks for the critique!

She is a stunning warrior - Never used HDRI only as background - impressive results!

Aside from her two blades, she has a really unfair advantage, methinks! Excellent work once again, my friend!

Just DLd and installed the newest version of DS.... Now, if I can get everything to work right... I HATE that new 'DAZ Central' interface. The old D.I.M. worked fine for me...

You put amazing amount of work in to your renders. There is real value to you in such dedication as you are learning so much about how to apply human anatomy. Something that we could all learn from. You are to be congratulated.
