wow, you captured the cloistered, packed feeling of a cafe or intimate corner of a bistro. I love how your lines transcend the patrons to form a rushing, whooshing energy throughout. And how, even with abstract elements all over the people here, you still capture all the salient features of the people---glasses, a mustache, an intense gaze, a man alone with a cigarette or pipe, etc. Even a man in the left distance, who seems to be in another room, contemplating. I love the rushed abstraction of the faces, yet they're all so characterful. Your way with graphite is intense and heavy---you're not afraid to press down on the pencil to make strong blacks. This is a crowded, intense piece, with lots of energy and character. I love this. And somehow the facial types feel like a late 19th C piece by any number of French artists...while, at the same time, the rush-iness of it feels very 20th C.
