Description

Happy Canada Day everybody! Another 4K Teams background submitted for your approval. For today, a piece of Canada if you take my meaning. This scene is inspired by two summers I spent in a place called Pinawa, Manitoba - long ago. Pinawa was (and is) a small support community for the Whiteshell Nuclear Research Labs. Part of Atomic Energy of Canada in those days. Essentially, a city suburb dropped in the forests of Northern Canada. Unlike Southern Ontario, the aurora borealis is often visible and bright in the night skies of Pinawa. Sometimes you can even hear their 'music' as electrical interference on an AM radio - ask your parents.1 And, if you walk out of town a short distance during July and August, the lights are complemented by an additional wonder of the natural world. Fireflies twinkling and dancing (mating) about the evergreen trees. It's an unforgettable sight. Something else hardly seen in Southern Ontario. One day I will go back. Even if there are no streetcars there. This image was rendered in Vue. I have been struggling for a while to create plausible Northern Lights in Vue. This one turned out reasonable I believe. I create auroras as volume textures - luminous clouds. One important trick is to control brightness through the density of the volume and keep luminosity constant. And never control brightness with colour options, Vue actually radiates black which will create patches of darkness where there should not be any. Cheers! And stay safe. Footnotes: 1How did stereo AM work out? Anyone know?

Well done, Clayton. I actually saw the northern lights many years ago in the mid-Hudson valley--a very unusual occurrence. Hope Canada is keeping the US dopes from entering...Actually there are a large # of AM stereo stations in the US...stay safe.

Oh, this is beautiful! It's been a long time since I've done anything with Vue...

You make me sooooo want to go north and just spend the rest of my life enjoying scenes like this, amid the peace and quiet. So sick of all this current BS...

Anyway, I think this is far far beyond 'reasonable, my friend. It's magnificent!
