Description

Fractal Design Painter 2.0, 1996. These images are small gifs made for web. I will have high-res versions when I rescue my old mac drives (if ever). Those will be available as they are retrieved. I am updating these one by one to add more information about each work. This one is based on a particularly nasty clown (Binky) from the movie "Shakes the Clown". He was a coke-sniffing, mean-spirited egomaniac clown with an appetite for fame and violence. The movie is must-see. When I painted this, I was working on a series of digital paintings to be displayed on semi-opaque chalk coated paper with a backlit frame to bring out the high-saturation colors on dark backgrounds that can only be seen on your computer screen or with blacklight or UV paint. The eyes were made flat and brighter than any other part of the image to add to the menace and intrigue. The colors in his outfit and in the background "smoke" were chosen for pure shock value. I chose a mottled, eaten, creepy texture to paint the skin with to show he was real under the "glamour". Real and SCARY.
