This is for Priska (aksirp).
I know Priska is a fan of jazz...she's also a fan of the great Django Reinhardt: So I used one of the most famous photos of Django, and drew from it---with a mouse (my Wacom died!): So the drawing is a little 'wobbly'...but it's still Django! (If you google "Django Reinhardt," you'll see the original photo...and maybe you'll hear a little of his jazz. Hint: He was probably the greatest jazz guitarist of all time.)
The background is one of my Chicago photos: I used it because Priska has been in Chicago...and also because Django's music fits so perfectly into the night.
Please know: I originally wanted to make a recording of myself playing some jazz---I played jazz-piano for many years---but I haven't played jazz in a million years, so I stopped. (It was sloppy!) So this little painting is my 'alternate' choice...
Anyway: If you go to Priska's gallery, look at her many styles (go back a few pages)...Underneath all her different styles is a thoughtful, subtle and highly sensitive artist. Some of her photos make big landscapes feel very intimate. Others make very intimate subjects feel very grand...She also uses black and white delicately and beautifully, and she gives a very personal and intimate feeling to everything she shoots. "Fine" is a perfect adjective for Priska's work. So is "sensitive" and "insightful". In fact, Django was a good choice for Priska: Django's work has none of the 'flash' or 'big sound' of later guitarists: It's driving and passionate, but intimate. To me, Priska's work is also passionate and deep, yet intimate. And she's moved into photo-manipulation too---which has been very exciting. In fact, it inspired me to do this little piece...
Happy Birthday, Priska, and many, many more! I'm only one month late! (Priska's birthday was June 26th---verzeihung!) Thanks for your constant kindness, your very thoughtful work, and all the beauty you bring here. I hope you and your loved ones stay healthy and strong through covid; and I wish you a great year ahead. Lots of inspiration, health and joy to you, now and always---alles Gute zum Geburtstag! Mark
(PS: Django had only 2 workable fingers on his left hand: Thus the "missing fingers"...)

OK..... You did this with a MOUSE??? (Falls out of chair)
This is seriously awesome, Mark! You really nailed the feel of the artist and his jazz. This has a wonderful feel - like one of those classy old posters. I can almost see the lettering... "Tuesday Nite Jazz live with Django Reinhardt. 7PM till ??"
What a wonderful dedication for Priska. This rocks, buddy!

Don't you just love drawing with a mouse?:) I don't know alot about jazz (country girl at heart) but if you did it, it has to be great...Very nicely done and a great dedi as always...I don't recall you having done this style of art before so bravo! Therein lies a bit of abstract too and fabulous colors for the background. Thank you my friend for your visit to my tires, lol! Stay safe and well Mark and blessings to you and your sister.

You drew this with a mouse? And it still resembles (very nicely done) a person? And it resembles a specific (very nicely done) person? BRAVO! I can hear his music. The colors are vibrant and they match the city skyline, which is a small but superb detail. What a wonderful gift this is.
Stay safe out there in beautiful Chicago!

I used to go to the Jazz Festival every year and have dinner on the Riverboat.
