Description

The other Penelope this time, so no ping racing cars... Just an anxious woman awaiting the return of her husband Odysseus,King of Ithaca, missing after the Trojan War. Another day has ended with no sign of him, and so she must soon go downstairs and face the drunken and avaricious suitors who have invaded her home, desiring the wealth of the kingdom. the setting is daz's "Summer Siesta". the outfit is cobbled from the optitex dynamic dress, with elements from Esha's "Delira Dress" also on daz. Jewellery is from the "Amalthea Hair" set, retextured. The hair is a combination of Amalthea and Tatiana (both by Mairy/3Dream, the latter on daz)..

I love the sense of vastness here Joe. Beautifully composed scene, down to the smallest detail. :)

Penelope is the most tragic victim in the story, imho. I think she should have just started beheadings, and took power herself. She was clearly better suited to handle it.

Damn that Odysseus. He actually acvuses her of sleeping around in his absence. Like, WTF man!

Lovely scene, Joe. Happy Wednesday

Thanks Lyle. I had originally intended to have her unpicking her tapestry, but didn't manage to kitbash a convincing loom, so I left it out.

Your image is wonderfully done dear Joe, fantastic use of this very old set! Oh' yes sweet Lady Penelope, what a life: "Helen, who abandoned her husband, went down in legend as the most faithless of wives, while Penelope, who waited 20 years for Odysseus to return, earned fame as the most faithful wife of all"!

Thanks Ute. I think the parallells between Penelope and Helen are interesting; I deliberately used some of the same compositional elements here as i did in my render of Helen from a few years ago.

Oh she is gorgeous.

What a faithful and loving wife.

Very sad she met her fate when she went down stairs.

Thanks Glenda. She had the last laugh at least, when Odysseus finally got back...

A noble and beautiful scene with the dying western light clinging to the walls of the room. Like the dramatic poise of the beleaguered wife and the colours remind me of some of the glorious illustrations in historical books of my youth

Superb image. As I know that you are a cultured man, I presume that you know Maxfield Parrish and Sir AmaTadema? The lighting looks like some images of the first and the environment, particularly the marble, looks like some paintings of the second. Hat off, my dear!

Manny thanks, and well spotted 😀 Both of those are influences in my classical subjects, also John William Godward, as I have a Victorian lithograph of his hanging in my hallway!
