I am the author Lyle Aryn. Writing is my first love, my one true passion. Every since I was able to string a sentence together, it's all I've wanted to do. Websites where you can find my work and more are below.
I started using Daz Studio October 23rd of 2018, just as something to dink around with. I'd been signed up with the sight for a while, and would occasionally remember to check for freebies. I was surprised at what I had when I finally loaded up the program. I just started playing around with it, figuring it out. I'd say about 92% of what I've learned in the program I've learned just by playing around with it.
In December I went from being a dutiful son looking after his mom, to the full-time, no nights or weekends off, caretaker of my Mom. As someone who struggles with depression, anxiety and a mood disorder or two, this change has had a drastic impact on my own personal care and well-being. I turned to my blossoming love of doing digital art as a way to cope with the mountains of stress on my shoulders. I do miniature painting, too. But when you haven't slept in 4 days, handling a brush can be very messy. Not being able to paint to my own personal satisfaction was making this avenue of relaxation increasingly frustrating.
Daz Studio has an undo button that you just don't get with painting miniatures.
As my skill with the program grows, so does my confidence. I did the cover to my fifth novel, "Because the Night" using Daz Studio, as well as new covers for two previous releases. (Though they haven't been updated just yet.)
I'm looking to always improve my artistic work, no matter what the medium, and Daz Studio is no different.

One thing I frequently do to improve skin is open the render in Photoshop Elements, select the areas of skin (which takes a bit of patience and practice) and add a noise filter at about 2-3%. That adds just a touch of irregularity, which I find really enhances the look of characters that don't have enough detail in the original texture.
LyleAryn
Good to know. I could go in and improve the textures all over the place. I've got metal shaders that would make that sword look better, for instance. Maybe I'm not being fair to Norma. I'm sure she has her fans.
I could go in and add a few freckles by editing the skin file. A mole on her cheek. Maybe I should see it as a challenge. Hmm. I'll have to think that over.
This was done over a week ago. I've been working on a new render for a couple days now. I think I got the final version cooking now... It's about a 7-hour render, and this is the third time I've run it. I'll have it by dawn, I think.

looks good

Thanks. Kinda makes me think of the portraits for old Infinity Engine games. (Baldur's Gate, Icewind Dale, etc.)

I think she would do well for a certain type of Romance Novel applications. Certainly she can benefit from some post treatment to her skin to maybe burn and dodge her a little, highlight the eyes and lips, etc Still, I think she is enjoyable. Given the extent of ones library she could get more showings.
LyleAryn
It's a good excercise at the least. Post work is not my specialty, but then again I don't practice it. Maybe I'll find a new love of the tedium.
Thanks for stopping in.
As for my library... I think the last I looked there are 242 figures. Men, woman, dragons, dogs, droids, etc. Not counting the few that end up in lost and found, or those from 3rd party vendors, or customs. I think I've got 72 just in G8F.
I've got an addiction to pretty faces.
eekdog
That is one great looking V5 model. Those eyes are beautiful. You should use her again.
LyleAryn
Thank you. I think I'm going to play around some more. It occurs to me that if I play with the bump map, I might get the skin looking a little less bland.

What a beautiful character!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
LyleAryn
Thanks. I talked myself into doing a "redux." Got it rendering now.
Darkglass
Superb character and scene...love all the elements......quality composition..and use of colour...would be nice to some shadow cast or a little more shadows....as the lighting is pretty substantial...still top work...!!
LyleAryn
Yeah. In the redux I switched to an HDRI light and a rig to add some shadows. Shoukd have it up in a day or two. I had the sun-sky set to my normal defualt of noon, so not much shadows. Didn't change it.
Now I'm giving Norma a little more love. Hope the tweaks make the difference.

She looks quite amazing. Quite the beauty. One thing I notice though is that she is too perfect. The skin is so smooth and tight. She lacks the character you bring to your other characters. Know what I mean? Well, in any respects, she is a great looking character and she adds to your learning curve! Many fine kudos.
LyleAryn
Indeed I do! I'm using the piece to practice techniques. That too-perfect look is why I waited to post her. It just felt off. This one, I practiced some post work. But this morning I opened it back up in Daz Studio to see what I can do. Though now that I'm sitting in the park while it renders the next version, I realize I want to go in and see if I can give her a scar.

Nicely done.
STEVIEUKWONDER
Her eyes are mesmerising! Such a mysterious lady! Impeccable!
LyleAryn
They are my favorite part of this image, for sure!
They'll be back. I think the tweaks I've made will impress... Look forward to it!

Well, I have to say I think I'm in love.... Now be nice, and put the sword down, Norma... 😉
I think she really looks great, my friend! But then I'm a sucker for those lovely blue eyes..
LyleAryn
They became the focus for the REDUX version. I had to hit the lighting just right, so they'd pop the way I wanted. Lots of fiddling, but dang, she's a treat! I'm glad I didn't dismiss her.
