Description

Hello Rendosians ! I share a picture of a smiling angel with you today :-) This cute and smiling angel is a detail from the gate of the cathedral in Reims (France) It was my first visit in this town and seeing the cathedral was a great experience.because it is famous for being the place of the coronations of the French Kings since Louis I in 816. This cathedral is much more than a monument : it is a piece of History. Now, as for this angel, I've read that the cathedral had huge damages during WWI and this angel has lost his head. Now he is fully restored and I like him very much : seeing him at the Gates of Paradise wouldn't be frightening at all ! As for the title of my photography, it means "Smiling at angels" ! Thanks for the click, the comment and your kind words ! Take really good care of you ! Hugs Virginie

I am brought immediately to question the objects around this figure. They have lost their heads, due to? Is it weather, banditry, idolatry, or simply time has taken its toll?

During WWI, Reims was heavily bombarded and the cathedral was damaged...
