Description
The Titan-3C launch vehicle was one of those planned for the USAF X-20 Dyna-Soar Spaceplane. It consisted of two solid rocket motors (SRMs) as the zero stage and a two-stage Titan II core. Although the X-20 never flew, the Titan-3C and its descendants were used for many launches. In this image the vehicle has launched from the Western Test Range launch area at Vandenberg Air Force Base, California toward a polar orbit. The expended SRMs are falling away while the core first stage continues to burn.
The image uses my X-20 Dyna-Soar Spaceplane and the X-20 Titan-3C Booster freebie overlaid on a NASA satellite photo of the California coast. The booster flames were post-processed into the image using the exhaust prop from my Scout Ship. The exhaust flames from small separation rocket sets at either end of the SRMs were similarly added using the gun-fire prop from the Scout Ship. If I'd planned ahead I could have included the props and rendered the flames directly.
The scene was composed and Superfly rendered in Poser 11 Pro, post-processed in Corel Photo Paint.
